Girls Aloud 'disappointed' after tour cancelled
Updated 19 February 2003, 13.06
Girls Aloud will tour on their own instead
The Girls Aloud and One True Voice tour has been called off because not enough people bought tickets.

The Popstars the Rivals bands were due to hit the road on 1 March at the Birmingham NEC.

The girls said they are really disappointed that they won't be going on tour.

"Sarah, Nadine, Kimberley, Nicola and Cheryl were looking forward to performing in front of the fans that had made them number one for three weeks," a statement from their record label said.

"Girls Aloud hope to stage their own tour soon."

'Boys not looking good'

Their managers admitted the 12 dates had been cancelled because of lack of interest.

But Girls Aloud manager, Louis Walsh, insisted it was the boys' fault, and that the girls would be touring on their own later in the year.

One True Voice
"Being associated with One True Voice was not doing them any favours," he said. "Girls Aloud are doing brilliantly and they don't need to be supported by anyone else.

"The association with the boys was letting them down. The boys are not looking good at all.

Dropped out of the charts

"The girls are absolutely delighted. They're going to be massive. They're the only Popstars that are going break outside of the UK."

Girls Aloud will release their second single, No Good Advice, in May, and are planning an album later in the year.

Girls Aloud beat One True Voice in the Christmas number one chart battle, and stayed at the top for weeks with Sound of the Underground.

Although the boy band went in at number two, their song quickly dropped down the charts and didn't do nearly as well.
