I couldn't hear myself for the screaming!

On Sunday, Blue Peter presenter Simon Thomas presented the CBBC Prom in the Park from Hyde Park live with Fearne Cotton. Here's his exclusive report on the day.

I've done the show before but this year the atmosphere was the best yet.

The London Philharmonic Orchestra performed with guests including Will Young, Gareth Gates, S Club Juniors, Amy Studt and Stamford Amp.

Jennifer Pike, 12, the BBC's youngest young musician of the year played the violin.

On Saturday we rehearsed at Abbey Road studios. It was really cool to see the acts perform with such a big orchestra - most were really excited and for many it was their first time.

Screaming fans

The day was a sell-out. There were 20, 000 people there but it felt like loads more. There were so many screaming fans it was almost too noisy - I could hardly hear myself talk.

And I wasn't the only one having problems.

Backstage, I was talking to Will Young and he said there was so much screaming he could hardly hear himself sing!

Popular Pop Idols

Will and Gareth Gates got the biggest reception from the crowd.

But that was no surprise because a lot of people where there to see them especially.

Some of their loyal fans were getting a bit impatient, chanting for the boys when we were announcing other acts.

Minor hiccups

There wasn't much gossip to report on but I did see Zoe Birkitt hanging around Gareth's mobile dressing room. So who knows maybe the rumours are true?

Nothing major went wrong, just a couple of little things.

There was one point where I was doing a link with Fearne and Stamford Amp setting up on stage to perform Ruby Tuesday. But it took a bit longer than we hoped.

Fern and I had to fill for two minutes instead of one, which feels like an age in front of so many people!

Stage buzz

I've done so many CBBC road shows that I don't really get nervous anymore - I get a buzz from it.

I get more nervous talking in front of 10 people than in front of 10,000!
