Will Young's dream of meeting the Queen could come true this summer after he was named as one of the stars who will be performing at the Golden Jubilee concert on 3 June.

Pop Idol Will said he was delighted to have been asked to sing at the Party at the Palace.

"I'm sure it will be an unbelievable life experience," he said.

"I said during the show that I had always wanted tea with the Queen - it may not have happened yet, but maybe it's getting closer?"

And when Will performs on the same stage as stars like Sir Elton John and Sir Paul McCartney it looks very likely he'll be a record-breaking chart star.

Just two days into his chart career there are rumours that Will sold as many as 385,000 copies on the first day his single was in the shops, almost as many as Hear'Say sold in a week.

Fact File
Monday's sales at Virgin megastores
Glasgow: Store almost sold out, extra staff drafted in
Leeds: Will singles bought by 95% of customers
Liverpool: Queues before opening and 800 copies sold
Sheffield: Customers buying five copies at a time
Brighton: Buyers queued from 0730 GMT and shelves restocked four times

Christmas hit?

That was with Pure and Simple, which is still the fastest selling single of all time, although not for much longer.

Looking even further ahead, Will and Pop Idol loser Gareth Gates are thought to be neck and neck in the race to be Christmas number one, before they've even said they'll be releasing a record.
