  Robbie's Christmas chart topper
Updated 23 December 2001, 19.01
Christmas chart-toppers Robbie and Nicole
It was a close thing but Robbie and Nicole have fought off the stiffest competition for years to claim the year's biggest chart honour: Christmas number one!

The glamorous pair won the battle with their dreamy Somethin' Stupid, a cover of an old Frank Sinatra song.

Grey-haired crooner Gordon Haskell just wasn't match enough for them in the end and must settle for going in at number two with How Wonderful You Are.

A good year

It's been a good year for Daniel Bedingfield. He drops just one place to number three, leaving us wondering if he'll come up with something as catchy as Gotta Get Thru' This in the new year.

As far as new entries go, David Gray went in at a respectable 26 with Say Hello, Wave Goodbye, another cover, this time from the 1980's.

But more importantly, is it the number one you wanted? Well, yes it is: you gave Robbie and Nicole just over 42% of the total votes. S Club 7 were second with 26%
