  Entire So Solid tour scrapped
Updated 05 December 2001, 12.59

The entire UK tour of chart-topping garage act So Solid Crew has been scrapped because there are concerns that the gigs would be ruined by violence.

Promoters and authorities acting on the advice of the police pulled the plug on the 11-date tour after a number of venues were scared that the safety of concert-goers could not be guaranteed.

Pulled out

The decision follows an incident during a gig by the 30 piece act at London's Astoria last month in which a gunman opened fire in the packed club.

On Monday four of the venues set to host the band, who are touring with Oxide & Neutrino, pulled out on the advice of police.

Shocked

The promoters took the decision to call the entire tour off, against the wishes of So Solid Crew and Oxide & Neutrino.

The band, which enjoyed a number one hit earlier in the year with 21 Seconds, said they were shocked that they were not going to be able to appear live.

Alternative venues

A spokesman for the band said: "The incident at the Astoria, where there was a shooting, did not directly involve So Solid Crew and Oxide & Neutrino, and they have made it clear that they abhor violence."

The band's management are currently looking for alternative venues for concerts in the new year.
