  Book: Scorpia - Anthony Horowitz
Updated 09 June 2004, 14.47
Book: Scorpia - Anthony Horowitz
Published: April 2004 (Walker Books)

Pages: 359

The plot: Teenage superspy Alex Rider is on a school trip to Venice when he gets caught up in a plot by a criminal organisation called Scorpia to kill thousands of British school children!

The characters: Alex Rider (14-year-old spy for MI6), Mrs Rothman (beautiful but ruthless leader of Scorpia), Nile (Mrs Rothman's deadly henchman).

Highlights: The story races from one exciting episode to another with barely a pause for breath. One minute Alex is being attacked by a tiger at a masked ball, the next he's parachuting off a cliff onto a secret base. And that's in the first 100 pages or so. Watch out for some shock twists towards the end ...

Any weak bits? Inevitably, there are times it feels like James Bond territory.

Unputdownable? This is the fifth Alex Rider novel - and it's a real page turner. It would make a brilliant film too.

Nr rating:

4 out of 5

It is an exciting descriptive book but there are many James bond touches. It is not as good as the first four even though you find out about the parents of Alex Rider. I think the present rating is perfect for this book.

Scorpia is BRILLIANT! I can't believe you only gave it 4 stars! It's one of the best books I've ever read and Anthony Horowitz is an amazing author - much better than JK Rowling.

I love Scorpia and I can't believe what a cliff-hanger we're left with!!! I wish they turn Alex Rider books into a film- that'd be cool!

The last few Alex Rider books were quite weak, as they were quite predictable. The first 2 were the best, but this one is just as good!

Really cool book, and totally true in detail!! Shame about the end, was almost in tears... such a unique series for teenagers makes a change :)

This book is BRILLIANT!!!! I was really touched by it. I couldn't put the book down. It's got a GREAT ending, I can't wait to find out what happens in the sixth book.
