Film: Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow
Updated 03 November 2004, 15.24
Jude law
Release date: 1 October (Cert PG)

The stars: Super-cool flying ace Sky Captain (Jude Law), nosy newshound Polly Perkins, hard as nails Navy commander Franky Cook (Angelina Jolie)

The plot: It's a 1930-style comic-book action movie.

When giant killer robots attack New York, mysterious flying hero Sky Captain is the only one who can save the day.

Meanwhile ace reporter Polly Perkins reckons she's onto a hot story when loads of top scientists go missing.

Best bits: All the backgrounds are computer generated which means there are some amazing sets that you would never get in full live-action film. There are some good action scenes.

Fave characters: Angelina Jolie makes a cameo as a British Navy top bod. She's definitely one of the boys and has a great English accent.

Any slip-ups?: Gwyneth Paltrow isn't very convincing as a hard-nosed journo and she is a bit whiny. There are also a few cringe-worthy jokes.

Hit or Miss: Great retro fun with a hi-tech twist. It's like nothing you've ever seen before. You'll either love the look or loathe it.

Nr rating:

three out of five

What did you think of Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow?

I don't like the digital thing it looks really "fake".
Tina, 14, USA

I thought Sky Captain was excellent, Jude Law was fantastic and Angelina Jolie was pretty Good. Interesting Film!!!
Jack, 13, Ealing

It was kind of boring. Nothing I would want to buy on DVD
Toby, 12, Plainfield

It was a good story, but the jokes were cheesy. The characters were interesting, but they didn't get into them enough.
Katie, 13, USA

This is the cheesiest film and was a waste of money to see!!
Matthew, 14, Swindon

I loved Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow! Even though some of the reviews weren't good, I believe you should just see a movie even if the reviews are bad! The technology is amazing and Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow and Angelina Jolie are all amazing!!
Aarthi, 12, USA

Great! I can't believe you only gave it 3 stars!
William, 12, Cornwall

It looks cool, it sounds cool, the trailer's cool, and I should have left it at that. It's nicer to think of it as a movie that 'sounds good' instead of going to watch it and feeling extremely disappointed!
Megan, 11, Isle of Wight

Definitely a contender of the film of the year, I loved the whole digital thing they had going. The action is impressive as well as some of the other visuals.
Andrew, 15, Cleator Moor

Well, some of the plot was cheesy... But most of the digital stuff was cool. There were some funny jokes, and one time the whole theatre jumped. If you can get that effect from a PG movie, it's good.
Mandi, 14, USA

I was dragged to the previews of this by my friends and I hated it! It was rubbish! The acting, script and the whole digital thing doesn't work too well. Even the name gives a bad impression!
Ryan, 15, Enniskillen

I loved it. It was like nothing Id ever seen before.
Samantha, 11, Brooklyn, USA
