  Film: Super Size Me
Updated 09 September 2004, 17.20

Release date: 10 September (Cert 12A)

The stars: Nobody well known - it is presented by a filmmaker called Morgan Spurlock and involves a bunch of expert doctors, and Morgan's girlfriend.

The plot: It is a documentary style film, and the idea was for Morgan to eat nothing but McDonalds for a whole month to test whether it really is bad for you.

He came up with the idea after hearing about a legal case in America when two girls tried to sue the burger giant for making them obese.

At the start of the experiment, Morgan is in tip-top health and he enjoys living off fast food.

But in no time at all, his junk food diet has terrible effects on his mental and physical health.

The documentary also provides some surprising statistics on obesity and the quality of the food that we eat.

It raises some important issues about the way some adverts are targeted at children and how they convince you to buy things and the power that big companies have.

Best bits: When they ask a bunch of young kids to put names to some famous faces. They didn't recognise iconic figures such as Jesus but they all knew who Ronald McDonald was!

Fave characters: Morgan is a pretty funny guy, and his real-life girlfriend, who is a vegan chef, certainly adds a comic flavour to the film.

Any slip-ups?: There are some graphic scenes of surgery and a nasty part when Morgan is sick - definitely not for anyone who is squeamish!

Hit or Miss: It's not an amazingly entertaining film, but it definitely makes you think a bit harder about what you eat. There is quite a bit of hype surrounding this film and that will make it a Hit!

Nr rating:

Four out of Five

What did you think of Super Size Me?

I saw this film at the weekend and I have got to say it was rather good! I enjoyed the fact that the children recognised Ronald McDonald and not Jesus! I didn't like it when he puked up though.
Lou, 11, Milton Keynes

I thought Super Size Me was a good movie but it's not going to put me of McDonalds forever!
Jack, 11, Glasgow

Wow this film makes you feel really bad about eating junk food, McDonalds is gonna be going through a tough time when everyone watches this!!!
Steph, 15, Totton

For Ryan, 15, Enniskillen, here in America, people DO live on McDonald's, so I think this movie was good, now I don't even get near fast food! (I disliked it before, now I hate it! )
Samantha, 14, USA

Nobody really lives off McDonald's. Even though the movie was an eye-opener it was a bit exaggerated.
Nadine, 15

To be honest I love McDonalds, but never go mad. Maybe 2/3 a month but that's it. This movie was a real let down - it was over exaggerated and really stupid at times. Let's face it, who in reality lives on McDonalds?
Ryan, 15, Enniskillen

It was rubbish. It got so boring that I was glad to go. It was a real let down.
Sophia, 11, Crawley

It wasn't brilliant but it was interesting and it's quite scary to think what will happen to you if you eat too much junk food.
Frankie, 13, Chester

Living in the US, it came out here ages ago, and I went to see it because I REALLY don't like McDonalds. The movie was good, but honestly, don't eat popcorn or anything while you're watching. It'll make you feel sick that you ate such gross stuff. I never want to eat at McDonalds again after seeing it...
Calymne, 14, USA
