The UN General Assembly meets regularly each year to discuss important issues.

Sometimes the General Assembly decides that a Special Session is needed to discuss a particular problem or issue.

This often takes place over several days.

Since the United Nations was established there have been over 20 Special Sessions.

In May 2002 there was a Special Session on Children being held.
