No one knows yet. If it does happen, it will only be after a long and important discussion.
The economy must be ready
The Chancellor Gordon Brown has set five tests that he will use to see if the UK is ready.
Before joining the euro the government want the way we do business to become a bit more like the way things are done in Europe.
The government have also said that the UK should only use the euro if it will be bring more money into Britain. It must help create jobs and allow businesses to grow.
The tests are checks to see if this would happen.
The people could decide
The Prime Minister, Tony Blair, has said that the people of this country will get to vote on joining. A referendum would be held, to see if the UK wanted to use the euro instead of the pound.
