There are plans to try some suspects using special courts called military tribunals.

These would use a panel of military judges to act as both judge and jury. Depending on the particular charges, the sentences could include the death penalty.

Fifteen of the 585 detainees in Guantanamo Bay have so far been selected to appear before the commission.

But the commissions have been suspended while courts in the US decide if it is legal to hold these trials.
