Anti-Milosevic protesters take to the streets in Belgrade, Yugoslavia How did Milosevic lose power?
Milosevic called an election in 2000. By this time the country was devastated by poverty and war and most people had turned against him.

His rival Vojislav Kostunica won the election, but Milosevic refused to accept it. So the people took to the streets again and stormed into the Parliament building and the national TV station, and set fire to them.

There was a national strike, lots of police joined the protesters and Milosevic's rule was finally over.
