The final prize for the British troops was Port Stanley.
As preparations began to take the capital Argentine planes hit the British supply ships, Sir Galahad and Sir Tristram.
Despite this British troops surrounded Port Stanley and the Argentineans surrendered on 14 June.
The British took more than 10,000 prisoners of war.
More than 900 people died during the fighting:
- 255 British troops
- 3 Falkland islanders.
