Greek Cypriots
Greek Cypriots make up most of the population (78%).
They do not all want Cyprus to become part of Greece, but Greece is a very important part of their identity. They speak Greek and most are members of the Greek Orthodox church.
The south of Cyprus has a more successful economy than the north.
One important reason for this is tourism. The island is visited by millions of tourists every year, most of them come from the UK.
