In West Africa, Mauritania is facing a terrible shortage of food after six poor harvests in a row.

World Vision, which runs feeding centres in the country, says there is severe malnutrition in many areas.

Mauritania is in the dry Sahel region and often suffers from droughts.

Why here?

The most recent rainy season, from June to August, gave little rain.

The country's crops of sorghum (a cornlike grass) and maize are thin on the ground.
