The Queen in the 2000s

The Queen's sister, Princess Margaret, died in February 2002.

The Queen's mother died in March.

Because her father died 50 years ago, the Queen now has no-one left from the family she grew up with.

2002 began as a sad year for the Queen but there were also happy times. Millions of people helped celebrate the Golden Jubilee.

In 2003 the Earl and Countess of Wessex added a baby daughter to the Queen's family.
