The Queen in the 1970s

1977 was the Queen's Silver Jubilee. She celebrated 25 years on the throne.

There were many special events.

The Queen lit a huge bonfire on top of a hill in Windsor. This started a chain of bonfires on hilltops all around Britain.

Many people held local street parties where the community all got together to celebrate.

In the 70s bosses and their workers were often arguing, there were many strikes. The Jubilee was a chance to forget about that for a while.
