Maxine Carr, 26, was a temporary teaching assistant at St Andrews Primary School, in Holly and Jessica's classroom.
She was living with Ian Huntley, the caretaker at the school, when the girls went missing.
At the end of the school summer term in 2002, she applied for a full-time job at the school but did not get it. Lots of the pupils in her class made her goodbye cards, including Holly and Jessica.
During the court case, she described Holly and Jessica as "lovely girls".
Maxine, who was known to have an eating disorder, was away visiting her parents when the girls disappeared. But she lied to the police at first and said she was at home, to provide Ian Huntley with an alibi. She said he asked her to lie for him.
On 20 August, Maxine was charged with lying to the police.
