Sarah Payne and Megan Kanka What is Megan's Law?
Megan's Law is named after seven-year-old Megan Kanka, who was murdered by a known dangerous person, Jesse Timmendequas.

He already had two convictions for hurting children, but her parents were not told this when he moved into a house opposite them.

Megan's Law allows every parent in America to know who the dangerous people are who live in their area. Parents must be told every time someone dangerous is freed from prison and moves into a house near them.
