Sick child What are the mumps?
The mumps are caused by a virus. It's spread through saliva and other body fluids.

Usually the symptoms include uncomfortable swollen glands under and around the chin, and fever.

Although it's more common for children to get the mumps, it can infect adults too and can be quite serious for men.
