How many countries are involved?
The United States announced the plan for a space station in 1984.

Following the break-up of the Soviet Union in 1991, it was decided to make the space station an international project between the US, Russia, Canada, Japan and the European Space Agency.

The Brazilian Space Agency has a small input as well.
