  Hayfever
What is hayfever?
Is there a cure?
How can I avoid it?
Why are more people getting hayfever?
Why does it happen in the summer?

Is there a cure?
There are three types of treatment for hayfever:
  • anti-histamine tablets

  • steroid sprays to be used in the nose

  • anti-allergy injections
Many anti-histamine tablets are available from the chemists without waiting to see a doctor first.

They stop your body's defence system from reacting badly to the pollen.

Some types of these tablets can make make you feel sleepy - so it's important to have them checked first.

Nose sprays only help that part of the body and most need to be used twice a day.

In severe cases your doctor can give you an anti-allergy injection.

These are given over a number of years and offer long-term protection from allergies.
