Book 1- The Ring Sets Out
Frodo Baggins inherits a magic ring from his uncle Bilbo. His friend Gandalf the Wizard discovers it is the One Ring, created by the Dark Lord Sauron. Frodo must leave his home to take the ring to safety.

Frodo and his servant Sam Gamgee travel towards Bree to meet Gandalf. On their way they are nearly captured by a mysterious Black Rider and join up with their friends Merry and Pippin. After various adventures they reach Bree.

But Gandalf is not there. They meet the mysterious Strider, Gandalf's friend, who decides to take them to Rivendell to be with the Elves. They are attacked by the Black Riders, and Frodo is stabbed by a poisoned knife. He is rescued by an Elf, who takes him to Rivendell, where the Black Riders are washed away in a magical flood.
