The tough audition Search for a substitute
After Kym's shock departure from the band, they quickly had to find a replacement.

On 25 January 2002 the band announced they would be auditioning for a new member.

And on 3 February more than 3,000 hopefuls queued for hours only to be immediately rejected if they did not have the right 'look'.

Around 50 to 100 lucky ones who passed the 'looks test' then faced a tough day with voice coaches, choreographers and musicians, and interviews with the band.

After the second day of auditions the band still couldn't decide on who they wanted, so they chose a final 12 and put them through their paces once more.
