Supermarket fish counter What fish should I eat to help the environment?

This is some advice from Marine Conservation society's 'Good Fish Guide'.

If you like eating seafood, but you care about the environment their website can help. It tells you which fish it's OK to eat and which you should avoid. Here are some examples.

    Best to eat for the environment

  • Clams
  • Mussels
  • King Scallops
  • Oysters
  • Pacific Salmon (line caught in Alaska)
  • Scampi or Dublin bay prawns
  • Sprats from the North Sea

    Next best choices

  • Flounder
  • North Sea herring - caught on a line
  • Red mullet
  • Red gurnard
  • Coley from the North Sea
  • Spider crab
  • Dover sole - from Eastern Channel
  • Mackerel - if it's from Cornwall
  • Seabream caught on a line
  • Salmon - but only if it's farmed organically
