In November 2002 a survey showed nearly two thirds of teens said they're fed up with made for TV music.

Fame Academy was the BBC's answer to finding a pop idol, but it only ever got half as many viewers as the Pop Idol final 10 months earlier.

The next series of Pop Idol was supposed to start soon, but it's been delayed until the summer, because TV bosses reckon we're in reality-pop overload.

So what happens next really depends on whether you lot keep watching the shows and buying the records...
