Saddam Hussein, a Sunni Arab Sunni Arabs
Sunni Arabs have been the most powerful group in Iraq, even though they make up only 20% of the population.

Saddam Hussein and most of his party, the Baath Party came from this group.

The Sunni come from central Iraq, and are made of various clans, like Saddam's own clan, the Tikritis. Not all of these clans actually supported his government though.
