No one knows why some people choose to hit or threaten the ones they love.

All we know is that it's happening a lot.

Around 2,000 children call Childline about it every year.

The fact that it's such a hidden problem makes it hard for anyone outside the family to stop it.

But there are simple ways for children to get help.
