Britain owns nearly a hundred square miles of the island of Cyprus. On this land there are three military bases.
The bases were used as staging posts during the 1991 war against Iraq. Casualties from the war in Iraq have been flown to Akrotiri. This is the RAF's largest base outside the UK.
The island of Cyprus is split between Turkish Cypriots in the north and Greek Cypriots in the south. 1200 UN troops patrol The Green Line which seperates the two halves.
