The England team celebrate their last win in 1986-7 Who's won the most?
Wins since 1882:
England - 26
Australia - 29
Draws - 5

England started off well in the early days of the Ashes, and won seven contests in a row from 1882.

But then Australia came back with a winning streak, starting in 1891.

Since then, both sides have taken it in turns to dominate the tournament over the years.

But in recent years, England have been on a losing streak. They haven't won the Ashes since captain Mike Gatting took his side to victory in 1986-7. It was an exceptional win for England as everyone had written them off before they even left for Sydney. But cricketing heroes like Ian Botham, Gladstone Small and Bill Athey helped them win.
