The Games are one of the biggest multi-sport events in the world's sporting calendar.

There are medals on offer in 17 different sports at the Games, with weightlifting and bowls sitting alongside better known events like athletics and swimming.

Unlike the Olympics, not every country gets to compete, with America, Germany and Russia some of the biggest names to miss out.
