HMS Illustrious Royal Navy surface ships
Royal Navy surface ships in the Arabian Sea were used for refuelling aircraft and as bases for commandos.

The ships were:

  • aircraft carrier HMS Illustrious
  • assault ship HMS Fearless
  • frigate HMS Cornwall
  • destroyer HMS Southampton

There were also support ships in the Royal Fleet Auxilaries:

  • Sir Tristram
  • Sir Percivale
  • Fort Victoria
  • Fort Rosalie
  • Bayleaf
  • Brambleleaf
  • Diligence
