I had a brilliant time at acting school
Updated 11 September 2004, 09.39
Jamie, fourth from left, and other young actors on the course
Jamie did an intensive acting course with Youth Musical Theatre UK and in his report he describes what he got up to.

"I went to the Belfast Methodist College where I did a week of residential intensive acting - a singing and movement course called Quantum 3 with the new company YMT:UK (Youth Musical Theatre UK).

I had auditioned earlier in the year and got a place, which was a big surprise because loads of amazing people try, and to get through is a big achievement!

Ice-breakers

Outside the school
Outside the school
For the first day or so we did loads of exercises for our voices and bodies and also loads of games to 'break the ice' and help people get to know each other.

But everybody was so nice and friendly that after the first day it seemed like we'd known each other for ages.

Mythical creatures

Our play was a devised piece, inspired by Ted Hugh's poem 'Moon Whales'.

It was about what would have happened if, when Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldridge went up to the moon they found life.

At singing practice
There were all sorts of different mythical creatures like hop plants which actually hop, moon whales which swim inside the moon under the surface and gigantic mile long snails which have no shells.

It was hilarious!

Big thank you

It was a brilliant experience and I recommend it to anybody who likes to do musical theatre because you'll absolutely love it.

That week was one of the best weeks of my life so I'd just like to thank everybody who made it possible and all the chaperones (we love ya!) and all the other kids for being so brilliant!"

Jamie, 14, Brighton
