I'm excited my team is playing in the SPL
Updated 06 August 2004, 10.07
Ewen supports Inverness Caledonian Thistle
Inverness Caledonian Thistle will play the 2004 football season in the Scottish Premier League - for the first time.

Ewen's supported this club since it was formed and in his report he tells us all about them.

"I am a supporter of the newest club in the SPL (Scottish Premier League), Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

Some people will remember the team after the great newspaper headline 'Supercaley go ballistic, Celtic are atrocious' when we knocked Celtic out of the Scottish Cup in 2000.

Two years old

I have supported the club since they were formed in 1994, when Inverness Thistle and Caledonian FC merged to form the current club.

My dad took me to the games when I was only two and I have supported them ever since.

Ground share

We started off in the Third Division and worked our way up to Division One and finally gained promotion to the Premier League by winning the League last season.

Things are not quite that simple however.

Our stadium does not meet the SPL standards and we must ground-share with Aberdeen to play in the SPL.

This involves a round trip of 200 miles to play our 'home' games which I think is absolutely ridiculous.

Tough job

I play for the U/13 squad and as a result of our promotion our team too will be playing against the likes of Rangers and Celtic this season and I am really looking forward to that.

I know that Caley Thistle will have a tough job to survive in the League this season with 38 'away' games but I hope we do and get back to Inverness next season!"

Ewen, 12, Inverness
