  I'm mad about reading!
Updated 29 February 2004, 11.56
Reading girl
Lauren's absolutely nuts about books.

She tells us why she thinks reading is the bee's knees.

"Reading really CAN improve your English. I read lots and because of that I get really good grades.

I never used to read much, and I was behind in my class, not only with the words I could read, but also in writing stories and spelling!

I suddenly decided that I loved books, and I actually shot ahead of the rest of my class!

By the time I was in Year 2, I was getting reading books from the Year 6 section, and I'd get through them really quick as well.

My story writing improved very suddenly, and my spelling was amazing.

By the age of 9, I had such a high spelling and reading grade that my school gave me an adult's spelling and reading age.

Reading really made a difference to my school grades, so you should read too!

I have read probably hundreds of books!

Harry Potter (14 times) Lord of the Rings (7 times), His Dark Materials (8 times) , Artemis Fowl, everything!

You may think that I'm completely mad reading books that many times!

But you'll read through something a second time a few months later and think "I don't remember that happening!"

So turn off that TV and pick up a book!"

Lauren, 12
