I've declared war on chewing gum
Updated 05 February 2004, 17.50
Harriet hates chewing gum litter
Harriet is on a mission to clean up the streets where she lives.

Here she explains how she's doing it.

"I'm fed up with the state of the pavements in the centre of Hereford which are being blighted by ugly chewing gum carelessly thrown down by people.

On the streets in High Town the situation is really bad.

People don't care

I reckon there are thousands of bits of chewing gum spat out by people who don't seem to care about the area.

A lot of it's stuck hard to the ground but sometimes it is still sticky and sticks to your shoes making a right mess... especially if it gets onto carpets.

Chewing gum
I've spoken to my school friends and teacher about it and we've come up with the idea of making posters to be put up around town asking people to be more thoughtful.

We're planning to write to the council and ask if we can display our posters around the town.

Hopefully people will take notice and help us rid Hereford of this unsightly mess!"

Harriet, 10, Hereford

Why don't you write us a Press Pack report - and get it published on the site?!

It can be about anything that's happened in your local area - or your views on the news.
