I've changed my life by losing weight
Updated 02 February 2004, 11.17
Shea
Shea talks about how he's losing weight by watching what he's eating.

Although he's lost a stone in the last year, at 12 stone he still weighs too much compared to his height to be healthy.

"I think I became overweight because a lot of unhealthy things were available to me.

There were always things like takeaways or cakes and biscuits in the kitchen and I just wasn't active enough either.

Uncomfortable

I felt I was unable to join in activities with my friends and people.

With the weight that I was I felt uncomfortable being around people and not being able to do stuff - I mean just simple things like getting changed in front of people in the changing rooms at school.

Also, my mum used to tell me sometime that if I carry on going you might have a heart attack. It's one of those things where you think it might happen to you

New lifestyle

Shea now plays football
Then two years ago I decided to go to a weight loss camp to try and sort it out.

There you learn how to eat healthily and sensibly along with lots of other children who are also overweight. I've lost over a stone over the past year, and now make sure I eat a balanced diet.

Tips

For anyone who wants to lose weight there are easy things you can do to start with.

You can take the stairs instead of taking the lift. Also, you can change what you eat, like you can eat pasta or paella instead of high fat fast foods.

And you can do some activities - have a kick around with a football with a friend. Remember it just takes small things to get you started. "

Shea, 15
