I felt sick when I looked in the mirror
Updated 02 February 2004, 11.48
Sarah is now trying to lose weight
Sarah is 15 and has been overweight for as long as she can remember. She's a size 26 but is now trying really hard to lose weight.

"I think I became overweight because of family problems.

My dad left when I was five and a half-years-old and I started eating to make myself feel better.

I would go to the shop and buy a chocolate bar or crisps and hide it but I don't really do that now.

I just used to sit there in front of the television after buying chocolate bars and crisps and sweets, and eating them all.

'I feel ugly'

If I look in the mirror now I think I look right fat and ugly. I don't see a nice me I just see a fat blob in the mirror and it makes me feel sick.

I left school three years ago because I was being badly bullied. I had pushing and shoving, people calling names, like "fat cow" and had eggs thrown at me

Also, they weren't just aiming at me they were calling my family names too and I didn't like that.

Fashion wish

Sarah when she was 9
It's really hard to follow fashions. I get picked on because I'm not wearing fashionable clothes.

I get picked on because of the shops I go to and it makes me really upset and I feel sick and angry all the time.

I'm worried because my dad's got diabetes and I'm scared of getting it. My dad has to take the medication everyday.

Also, I'm worried because my dad's first daughter has got it now and she's overweight.

Success

I've joined a gym now and am trying to lose some weight.

Over the last three months I've lost eight pounds and gone down a dress size.

My goal is to get down to a size 12 - I can't get the clothes I like in my size as they're all for skinny people. That's my goal.

Weight is a really big issue for me - I don't want anyone to stare at me or bully me - I just want people to accept me for who I am."

Sarah, 15,

Why don't you write us a Press Pack report - and get it published on the site?!

It can be about anything that's happened in your local area - or your views on the news.
