I'm glad Curious Incident won book prize
Updated 01 February 2004, 10.03
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time
Anonymous is delighted that a book about autism won the Whitbread Book of the Year prize.

Her brother went to a special needs school, and she tells how Mark Haddon's book helped her make friends with some of the pupils there.

I'm really glad The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time won the Whitbread Book of the Year award.

My brother used to have a severe form of autism which has gradually got better over the years.

Brother had autism

Because of this my brother went to a special needs school for a bit, there I interacted with lots of people with autism.

This book gave me a wonderful insight and helped me deal with these people much better than I could have originally.

I think it's also important that other people know how an autistic child or adult is feeling and how to respond in a public situation as, as proved by Christopher from the book, these can be difficult or scary situations for people with autism.

It's great that a book as good and as touching as this has been recognised. It really changed the way I interacted with those around me and any autistic people I met.
