I feel very strongly about the homeless
Updated 04 November 2003, 10.41

Not having a home is a difficult situation which can cause people loads of problems and sometimes, suffering.

Maria tell us what she thinks about it and the terrible conditions that children and adults are exposed to because of it.

"Homelessness is a very important matter. There are loads of children who are on the streets and who cannot get jobs.

Reading a book

I recently read a book at school about homelessness and the author actually spent three days on the streets.

He said that it was terrible. He didn't know how 16 year olds cope with the stresses and strains of city life.

They get threatened by drunken men and they get disrespected. It just isn't fair.

Do we feel for the homeless?

I feel very strongly about the homeless. We get scared by them as they sometimes look a bit scary and I do not like to see them on the streets.

Charities can help

There should be more charities to give the homeless a place to stay so they do not get intimidated or suffer, as they can be a mother, a child or an elderly person.

The Salvation Army do help but I wish there were more places which would help the homeless to find a home.

We all deserve that"

Maria, 12, Doncaster
