Should you risk your life for a world record?
Updated 04 August 2003, 08.42
Tanya Streeter celebrates after breaking a free diving record
Daniel from Northampton doesn't think that record breaking attempts should count as news.

And in his reports he also says that attempting a dangerous world record is irresponsible.

"I am writing about the woman who broke the free diving record, because I don't think all record breaking should be made headline news.

The woman risked her own life and now could be risking others because people will try and beat the record she has set - and they might not be as lucky as her.

Daredevil

The more news programmes, websites or newspapers that feature this story, the more dangerous it could be for people.

Tanya Streeter in her world record dive
I do respect that this woman is a bit of a daredevil, which is fine.

But I think it is slightly selfish in a way to risk her life to beat a record.

Safety gear

I thought the whole point in diving was for the experience it provides.

Just like swimming underwater, they are all achievable with safety gear.

So the question I'm asking is: is it worth risking your life to be in the Guinness Book of Records and at the same time possibly risk other lives?

I think the answer is no."

Daniel, 12, Northampton

Why don't you write us a Press Pack report - and get it published on the site?!

It can be about anything that's happened in your local area - or your views on the news.
