Michael competes in swimming competitions with his local club.
In his report he says that people don't appreciate the effort that goes into training for these events.
"Many people do not realise the hard work and dedication that goes into swimming.
I train for approximately 10 hours a week, as do many of my friends at my local swimming club.
Lots of events
During the main season (September - June) there are many competitions, sometimes as many as two per week!
The events range from 50 to 1,500 metres front crawl and on other strokes 100 to 200 metres.
There is also an individual medley event that contains all the strokes.
Many people do not appreciate the time and depth of this sport.
There are large events such as the Southern Counties (in my region, the south east of England) which demands a high standard for entry.
Swimming is a sport that right now is going on behind everyone's backs.
Not only does it keep you fit but it may burn off that little bit of extra fat you gain over these summer holidays."
