I'm hoping to be a professional footballer
Updated 03 October 2003, 11.32
Jonathan tried out a new piece of training equipment to improve his game.

In his report he tells us how it works.

"I love football and I train at the Southampton Football Academy.

I had the opportunity to try out a new piece of training equipment.

It's called a Technical Development Ring.

It's basically a walled ring with numbered cut-out men making up a circle.

Our coach randomly called out numbers and we had to run and touch the cut-out with that number and then run back to the middle.

It's a really good way to improve your sprinting skills and pace.

You can also kick the ball at the cut-outs and, depending on how good your pass is, the ball is rebounded back to you.

So if you don't make a good pass, then you don't get the ball back.

On your own

I think it's a really good training device and it's something you can do on your own - you can use a pre-recorded tape which calls out the numbers.

It's like having eight team-mates with you but you're all on your own!

Still need a coach

However, I don't think it will replace a coach as you need a person to talk to you and give you feedback.

My aim is to be a professional footballer and I think training with the ring will help me achieve my goal."

Why don't you write us a Press Pack report - and get it published on the site?!

It can be about anything that's happened in your local area - or your views on the news.
