I smelt perfume from the Titanic!
Updated 15 May 2003, 17.59

Rachel won our competition to report on the Titanic exhibition at the Science Museum in London.

"I had seen the film and heard lots about it, but seeing real things from the Titanic was amazing.

I really liked the boarding passes that were given out at the start of the exhibition. Mine was a copy of one given to a lawyer from Switzerland, born in 1880.

His ticket was for a first-class cabin - later I found out what happened to him on that tragic night.

Unreal

The first thing you see is a large part of the ship's hull. The lights and music make you feel like you are underwater and so things don't quite seem real.

Iceberg

The part I liked best was the chance to touch an iceberg and feel how cold one is.

It's so cold hurts your hand after a few seconds!

There's lots of personal belongings like spectacles and hats - I was lucky enough to smell some of the perfume that still smelled nice from over 90 years ago!

Tragedy

Only 705 of Titanic's 2,228 passengers and crew were rescued.

I was upset to find the owner of my boarding pass wasn't one of the survivors."

Rachel, 12, Kent
