  I joined in a dog-walking record attempt
Updated 12 May 2003, 10.34
Two dogs shelter from the rain at world dog-walking record attempt
Deonne and her dog Buster took part in the world record attempt for dog-walking.

In her report she describes what it was like being there and tells us if they broke the world record.

"My dog Buster and I went along to The Royal Highland Showground, Edinburgh to attempt to break the Guinness World Record for dog-walking, which was set in Texas 2002.

In order to break the record more than 3,118 dogs had to complete the three mile sponsored walk.

When we arrived at the Showground the atmosphere, with everyone running around, was very exciting.

The variety of dogs that came along to take part included this year's Crufts Dog of the Year winner, Danny.

There was lots to do before the dogs and their owners attempted to break the world record.

There were magicians, bouncy castles and various pet accessory stalls.

Number 161

The dogs also had to register at the registration point.

Then finally at 12 noon Buster and I set off, our number being 161.

On our way round the course we ran into my Uncle and his dog Abbie.

This three mile sponsored walk was not only a world record attempt but sponsorship money was also being raised to buy an ultra sound scanner for The Dick Vet Hospital in Edinburgh.

Just missed out

Despite the weather which was rain, hailstones and windy, everyone had a great day - especially Buster and I.

After the walk we were exhausted and unfortunately we just failed to beat the world record attempt.

However a very large amount of money was raised to buy the ultra sound scanner.

On behalf of everyone who attended the walk I'd like to thank all the staff who helped make this a successful and fun day out."

Deonne, 12, Glasgow
