Boredom is making kids drink alcohol
Updated 06 May 2003, 11.36

Anna thinks more should be done to stop underage drinking.

In her reports she highlights lots of reasons why kids start drinking, including peer pressure and boredom.

"Underage drinking has become a real problem in my area.

I think more should be done to stop it happening at such a young age.

We are told about the effects of drinking and the health hazards at school, but by then for most it is too little, too late.

Fit in

Some people do it because they think it looks cool, others just to fit in.

It seems to be the only available activity for kids my age - and this just adds to the problem.

Sometimes those who don't choose to spend afternoons in parks drinking feel secluded and get teased - which could be another reason why more and more teenagers are drinking early.

Alcohol effects

I think more work should be done to highlight the bad health effects to drinking underage.

And to occupy teenagers in other ways, so that they don't result to drinking out of mere boredom.

Right now its becoming a huge problem around the UK and I think it should be stopped before it gets out of hand."

Anna, 15, Lincolnshire
