I'm worried my dad will lose his job
Updated 30 April 2003, 08.24
Corus steel plant
Lucy's dad has been working for a steel company called Corus for 28 years.

Now the company is planning to cut jobs and in Lucy's report she talks about how this could affect her dad.

"My dad's job is under threat.

It's been announced that if Corus do not make a profit then some workers will lose their jobs.

It's not fair because it's not just my family who will be affected but lots of other families too.

Two years ago it was the same situation, there was a risk my dad would lose his job.

More aware

I wasn't worried back then because I was younger and didn't know what was going on.

But this time I'm very worried because I'm older and more aware about these latest job cuts.

I'm happy with my life at the moment, I'm grateful for all the things we have. I don't want anything to change.

Things would be hard if my dad didn't have a job.

Wrecking families

If I got a chance to speak with my dad's bosses I'd tell them that I don't like the way they are treating him.

And instead of wrecking families' lives they should try and work their way around it.

I'm really fed up with Corus, they've messed my family around twice now and it's not right.

It's the thing that is most on my mind at the moment and it depresses me."

Lucy, 12, Marske, near Redcar
