War is on the minds of everyone here
Updated 27 March 2003, 08.57
Cassandra describes the atmosphere in the US
Cassandra lives in Virginia, USA.

In her report about the war with Iraq she tells us that the main topic of conversation in the US is about the war.

"My daily routine hasn't changed much.

I go to school during the week and my parents go to work. I'm in seventh grade and I enjoy talking...a lot!

But talk has been different of late. Instead of the normal 'how was your day' talk on the internet a lot of it is about war and Saddam Hussein.

Supporting President Bush

I've read the paper and heard the radio about all that is going on in the Middle East.

I've heard the polls on people's opinion of the war.

They say that the majority of Americans now support President Bush since we've gone to war.

People are still protesting against the war

Still protesting

I've also seen on TV what the rest of Americans think about the war through the protests.

I've seen these protests televised from here in the US and all around the world.

I understand that the people in these demonstrations are expressing their opinions but sometimes I think they go too far.

For instance I've seen people in other countries burning the American and British flag.

Terror alert

In the US we are also somewhat scared, which is to be expected.

A lot of us have confidence in our President and our military forces, but anything can happen.

Our terror alert is high which is quite scary and my school has announced what we would do in case of a chemical or biological emergency.

Life goes on

There is pretty tight security at the airports and government offices, but at other locations the fact that we are at war is transparent.

So in reality, the war is on the minds of a lot of people but life goes on as usual."
