But to get there, we have to ride on the road.
If we didn't ride on the road we wouldn't be able to get there and we would have nothing to do.
Whizz past
I think that most drivers in the UK think horse riders shouldn't be on the roads.
For the simple reason that, if you see a horse on the road, you have to overtake it wide and slow down for it.
Many drivers neglect this rule and just whizz past at a high speed, some even speed up specially to pass horses on the road and many yell abuse.
Little do they realise that they are actually endangering the lives of both the horse and the rider.
Out of control
For instance, if something startled the horse as things do on busy roads the horse would jump or dance into the middle of the road, leaving the rider out of control.
So next time you see a horse on the road, ask the driver to slow down and overtake widely.
Unpredictable behaviour
No matter how calm a horse looks, it could do anything unexpected at any time.
Horses, like any other animals, are completely unpredictable.
Accidents can happen at any time."
