It's wrong to kill the hedgehogs
Updated 21 December 2002, 09.31
Thousands of hedgehogs are going to be killed
Thousands of hedgehogs are going to be killed on the Scottish island of Uist because they are eating rare birds' eggs.

But Natasha thinks it's wrong to interfere with nature.

"I think that it's a bad idea getting rid of 5,000 hedgehogs in the Hebrides.

This is something that nature has to sort out not mankind.

Moving them has been proved fatal but if you're going to kill them anyway you may as well have a shot at it.

Endangered hedgehogs?

I am disappointed in the decision the Scottish government has taken.

This cull might end up the wrong way.

As well as the birds who are endangered the hedgehogs may end up that way too - we can't let that happen.

We have so much already that can slip through our fingers.

The expense

I am also worried about the money factor and how much this is going to cost.

The UK could be spending more money on helping nature and animals, not destroying it.

I am not an immense animal lover but two sides need to be seen."

Natasha, 14, North Yorkshire
